Description

Painting of the Cow and Calf Ilkley by Liz Waterhouse

Elizabeth Waterhouse

Landscape and Seascape Artist

Elizabeth is an Otley based artist who paints from the inspirational scenery surrounding her. Her work captures the reflective and tonal changes in the landscape. She has a command of colour which is quite unique.

Elizabeth Waterhouse Painting with Ashley JacksonElizabeth is truly a modern day impressionist. Her oil depictions of Timble Wood and the surrounding countryside make up her latest collection. Elizabeth Waterhouse is a self taught artist. She has painted for the last four years since joining Bramhope Arts Club where she has been Chairman for the last two years. She was encouraged to try oils and her first attempt,a seascape won the Best Picture of the Year Award in 2004. She uses oils, pastels and other mediums.

She enjoys writing short stories and is currently working on a thriller. She loves poetry and last year after painting with Ashley Jackson she sent him this poem as a celebration of the hot summer day above Holmfirth.

An Ode to an Artist of the Moor
High up at Digley into the ripe heather moor we went,
putting up our easels, gosh what a view heaven sent,
grey-blue shards of light break over the far hill,
catch the changing colours blink and miss it at your will,
see the tonal changes of recessive light,
close one eye and half the other then you just might,
the midges are biting every unprotected fleshy part,
making it an effort to paint anything from the heart,
the finished work is quite a sight with lots of prussian blue,
from vivid to the faintest shades and hue,
fresh washes tint like Cathedral glass,
mixtures of lemon yellow and burnt sienna contrive to give a convicing shade of grass,

Well many thanks to an artist of the moor for sharing his little piece of God's own county,

yes the purple clad heather YORKSHIRE MOOR

Elizabeth enjoys sculpting and exhibited at All Saints Parish Church in Ilkley in Holy Week. Her work is available at the Artolicana Gallery in Ilkley.
